The Bose Ultra Open Earbuds are a totally new kind of audio wearable device: premium sound built into a cuff-shaped earbud that doesn’t cover your ear. Proprietary Bose OpenAudio technology allows the earbuds to play rich, immersive audio privately even though the speakers on the earbuds sit a short distance from your ear canal, leaving you open to the sounds of your surroundings. The cuffs hook around the outside of your ear so gently that you might forget they’re even there, so you can leave them on all day, always ready for music, calls, or videos.

The Open Earbuds were designed from the ground up to give you a soundtrack for your life: to let you enjoy your music without blocking your ears, in a shape so comfortable you can almost forget you’re wearing any earbuds at all. The engineering of these earbuds was a matter of squeezing Bose OpenAudio technology — which projects deep, rich sound across a short distance of open space to your ear canal — into a shape that could grip your ear extremely gently, leave your ear open to outside sounds, and contain a long-lasting battery. This design process resulted in the Open Earbuds’ unique shape, inspired by ear cuff jewelry. The light-as-air flex arm connects the audio portion of the earbud to a battery barrel that goes behind your ear, providing just enough grip to keep the earbuds secure on any size ear.

Yes. The Open Earbuds are excellent for exercise, thanks to their confident stability on your ear, powerful sound, and open design. Bose’s unique OpenAudio technology allows air to keep your ears cool and dry while you enjoy both your music and sounds from your environment, such as city sounds, nature, input from a coach or workout partner, or sounds that help you play a sport such as tennis or basketball.

Yes. The combination of skin-safe materials, a fully open design, long battery life, and unparalleled comfort means you can leave the earbuds on all day, always connected to your device and ready to produce rich audio the moment you need it.

In stereo mode, the earbud batteries will provide up to 7.5 hours of play time or 48 hours of standby time (no audio playing). For all-day wear that involves a mix of audio listening and standby, the battery life will vary depending on the proportion of each. For example, 5 hours of audio would leave 10 hours of standby life remaining. And if the battery does run out, a quick 10-minute charge in the case will add up to 2 hours of play time.

Yes. You can slide the earbud slightly up or down the outside of your ear to adjust for comfort, preferred sound balance, looks, or to avoid interference with jewelry.

Yes. The Open Earbuds are uniquely designed to attach to a part of the ear that does not interfere with most glasses, hats, and piercings. If your accessories touch the product, that’s no problem as long as the earbuds remain comfortable and secure. The magnets that help the earbuds attach to their charging case may occasionally stick slightly to jewelry made of ferromagnetic metals like nickel; this is not damaging to the earbuds or the jewelry, but if bothersome can be avoided by slightly sliding the earbud up or down the ear, away from the jewelry.

OpenAudio is a proprietary Bose technology that allows audio played a short distance from your ear canal to be rich, deep, and private — without sealing your ear. Each earbud uses a tiny dipole transducer system engineered for loud-and-clear personal audio that stays at the ear — instead of going everywhere else.

It’s easy to hear the difference Bose OpenAudio makes by comparing the power of the Bose Ultra Open Earbuds with a traditional set of earbuds held slightly outside your ear. If you remove the traditional earbud from your ear canal and hold it near your ear at the same distance that the Open Earbuds sit, you’ll notice the much greater volume and richer bass from the Open Earbuds.

Bose OpenAudio directs rich, deep audio into the ear canal while using proprietary technology to minimize sound spillage in other directions. In most environments and at most listening levels, people around you won’t hear a thing. If you turn up the volume all the way in a very quiet environment, others may hear that something is playing from your earbuds, but they won’t be able to hear any detail unless they get very close.

No. By design, the Open Earbuds don’t block out the world or have noise cancelling, so you can enjoy your music while staying open to the sounds of the world around you. They do have an automatic volume control feature, available in the Bose Music app, that helps you hear your music evenly as your environment changes from quiet to loud and back.

Bluetooth multipoint, a feature that will allow the Open Earbuds to connect to two source devices at the same time, will be available through a software update coming later this year. Be sure to set up your earbuds with the Bose Music app to receive software updates.

The Bose Music app also allows you to customize the shortcut function on each
earbud’s button, and one of the available options is Switch Source. Setting a
shortcut to Switch Source will enable you to switch between previously connected
Bluetooth source devices with a press and hold of the earbud button without
needing to take the earbuds off.

Ratings and Reviews

Rated 5 out of 5 by from An Immersive Experience I recently had the pleasure of testing out the Bose Ultra Open Earbuds, and I must say, they exceeded my expectations in every aspect- nothing less can be expected from Bose. I am a single mom in my 40s who works from home. These earbuds helped me with my daily tasks. From taking work meetings to running around doing house chores, not to mention going for walks to get my steps in. From the moment I put in my earbuds, I was immersed in a world of rich, crisp audio that brought my music to life like never before. The sound is clear and well-defined, allowing vocals and instruments to shine through with incredible detail. The immersive sound feature is an experience. The sound follows your head movements. I was able to pick up on instruments and vocals I had not heard from my favorite songs. My one wish with this feature is for the bass to be more prominent. The earphones are comfortable to wear for long periods, thanks to their open design. They fit snugly in my ears and stayed in place even during vigorous activity, making them ideal for workouts or any physical activity. In addition to their impressive sound quality and comfort, the Ultra Open Earbuds are also built to last, with durable construction and reliable connectivity. I used my earbuds for a week without the need to charge them, they definitely have an amazing battery life. Whether I was listening to music at home or on the go, I never experienced any dropouts or interference, ensuring a seamless listening experience every time. Overall, I highly recommend the Ultra Open Earbuds to anyone in search of premium sound quality. With their exceptional audio performance, comfortable fit, and open design, they are truly a standout choice in the crowded world of earphones.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Stay Connected in Comfort: Bose Ultra Open Earbud! I am a product tester who had the opportunity to be part of a user focus group to test the Bose Ultra Open Earbuds. I have been testing them for several weeks and this is my honest review of the actual product. What I liked most about the earbuds The thing I liked most about the earbuds was the impressive sound quality. The earbuds delivered clear and crisp sound, offering a fantastic listening experience. I was amazed by the spatialized listening feature that made me feel like I was in the middle of the action. The earbuds also let me hear the sounds of the world around me, which made me feel more safe and connected. What I disliked or found challenging about the earbuds The thing I disliked or found challenging about the earbuds was the limited bass response. Due to the open-ear design, the earbuds did not deliver enough bass for my preference. I also missed the active noise cancellation feature, which would have improved the sound quality in noisy environments. The earbuds also lacked some customization options, which limited my ability to fine-tune the sound profile according to my personal preferences. How the earbuds compared to other headphones or earbuds that I have used before The earbuds compared favorably to other headphones or earbuds that I have used before in terms of design, comfort, and features. The earbuds had a unique design that clipped onto the sides of my ears and did not touch my ear canal at all. They were lightweight and barely noticeable. They also had intuitive controls and a great battery life. The earbuds also had some innovative features, such as Bose Immersive Audio and spatialized listening, that enhanced the overall audio experience. However, the earbuds also fell short in some aspects, such as bass response, touch sensitivity, and limited customization options. The earbuds did not deliver enough bass for my liking, and they also lacked active noise cancellation, which might affect the sound quality in noisy environments. The earbuds also had sensitive touch controls that sometimes led to accidental taps and adjustments. How the earbuds fit my lifestyle and needs The earbuds fit my lifestyle and needs well, as they were versatile and adaptable to different scenarios and environments. I mainly used the earbuds for commuting, meditation, and grocery shopping. I liked that I could listen to my favorite tunes or podcasts while still being aware of my surroundings. I could hear the traffic, the announcements, the cashier, and the people around me. The earbuds also helped me relax and focus. I used the Bose Music app to customize the sound settings and choose from different modes, such as normal, high, or low, depending on my preference and situation. A little about me I value practicality and efficiency. While I enjoy good sound quality, I prioritize comfort and awareness just as much. Would I recommend the earbuds to others I would recommend the earbuds to others who are looking for a new way to listen to music and podcasts without blocking out the sounds of the world around them. The earbuds are perfect for anyone who wants to enjoy high-quality sound and open-ear design. The earbuds are also suitable for anyone who values comfort, durability, and versatility. However, I would also caution potential buyers about the limited bass response, sensitive touch controls, and limited customization options. The earbuds might not be the best choice for anyone who prefers a more robust low-end experience, active noise cancellation, physical buttons, and extensive customization options.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Unboxing, Active Living, and the Open Ear The open ear fit stood out, letting me enjoy music while staying connected to my surroundings—a distinctive feature that adds versatility. Once you grasp the open ear concept, it reshapes expectations on sound and isolation. As an active music enthusiast, these earbuds proved to be dynamic workout companions. The comfort and audio quality were stellar, creating an enjoyable overall experience. They seamlessly transitioned from pumping workout beats to handling work calls, showcasing their versatility. However, phone call quality had occasional hiccups, requiring precise positioning for optimal clarity. Additionally, volume fluctuations across apps posed a minor inconvenience. In conclusion, these earbuds deliver a delightful journey with innovative features. Despite minor nuances in call quality and volume, they offer a compelling blend of design, comfort, and audio excellence, making them a reliable choice for active individuals seeking a versatile and immersive experience with a unique open-ear twist.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product! I really love these earbuds and here is why. When I first opened them up and downloaded the app they automatically started the process to download and sync which I though was nice as I am not the greatest at navigating that kinda stuff. When I put them on my ears I was initially hesitant because of the way they fit however, they are very secure. I shook my head and bounced up and down and swayed back and forth and they DID NOT MOVE! I absolutely loved that. Secondly I am a middle aged female and am subject to lose stuff easily so this is definitely a plus for me. They are also so light you don't even know you have them on. I actually wear them all day! These are the perfect situational earbuds. They allow me to enjoy fantastic sound, and you are able to hear sounds around you like cars, babies etc. I have had several of the Bose brands over the years and they live up to the quality provided by the Bose brand. One thing I will say though I did have an issue where when using the phone someone said that I was not coming through clearly and it seemed that the volume was very low but I did find that I was wearing them too high up on my ears so I now wear them closer toward my earrings which centers them closer to my ear drum and can now hear better. I would also like to state that Bose company is constantly doing product upgrades to improve the functionality of the earbuds. Overall I love this product and I highly recommend it to others.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A win for Bose. If I had to give someone a quick, down and dirty written review of these headphones, I think this would be it. I have been looking for earbuds like these for a while. I have a small ear canal, so using earbuds that fit into my ear Canals comfortably is hard for me. The Bose stay inside my ears regardless of what I'm doing, and the fit is very comfortable for long periods of wear, they are very comfortable. These do not have noise-canceling but excellent sound quality. If you're getting them so you can hear the environment's true outside sounds due to the open design, they are perfect at blending the two, outside sounds and inside sounds. I guess the volume at which you listen to media also determines how much of the outside you hear, but don't get dismayed no matter how loud the music is you will still hear extremely loud and important things such as car horns sirens etc. If that is the kind of environment that you use your earbuds, you won't be disappointed, these are perfect. I have used a lot of headphones and earbuds that have accompanied software, and I have to say that these have some of the best software that I have used. The companion Bose headphone app has all the useful feature like and EQ and more. It also has some features that I haven't seen before, like tap touch control. This feature comes in handy when you're wearing a beanie or hat that covers your ears. The Charging case snaps closed, and the ear buds snap into the case through magnets and clips, and they are super secure in my opinion, just in case you drop them. The battery life is great on them also I use them for the past couple of days for long periods of time, and I was not able to completely drain them in a single listen. The Sound quality is fantastic for open design headphones. All in all, these are my new favorite everyday driver headphones. This review pertains to the points that are import to me. I purchased them at the launch price and I think they are worth it. Get these if they are similar to what you prefer if they get a little cheaper, or they go on sale, it's a no-brainer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Comfort and Fantastic Sound Sneak peak bose Unpacking I received and unboxed my earbuds yesterday. So excited. I love the black and found it was so easy to set up. I went to my settings on my phone and it already showed connected. Don’t know whether I inadvertently did something or it was just that easy! I had trouble putting them in my ears. For me it was awkward probably because I am use to other earbuds and they are different. I love how the speaker is attached and how it hangs below the ear. Pros I am loving the sound quality it is superb. I like how the ear buds are light weight on my ears. Cons: They are difficult to put on when I am wearing earrings and they feel awkward however it may be my need to get use to them. They are not noise cancellation however that is not a deal breaker. I have managed to place them on my ear when I am wearing earrings (especially large ones). I do find the sound way better when I can place the ear buds where my earrings sit. Still enjoy the comfort. Pros they don’t slip out nor do they need constant adjustments,

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I am in love ❤️ I received my Bose Ultra Open Earbuds a few weeks back and let me tell you once, I picked them up, I have not put them down. I am a owner of several Bose earbuds and by far these are number 1 in rotation. I am a homemaker, so for me the were a absolute hit! They are very secure, not one has fallen out during use. I do alot of bend and squatting in my day to day activities. I appreciate the fact that when I walk my dog I can wear left or right earbud without having them both in use, I am able to hear my surroundings very well. I mostly use the buds for my music, videos and podcast needs. I will have to say I don't feel like they are the best for phone calls, and I still would give these earbuds a five star. I also think these would be perfect for anyone that has tinnitus. Don't let the design scare you, they were easy to use. I wore all different size earrings and my listening experience was not affected. Overall I am excited about my experience with the Bose earbuds.

Give me the perfect balance between crisp audio and ambient awareness that suits my active lifestyle. Super comfy fit for all-day use. Plus, they're lowkey stylish, go with any fit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for Skating and My Boss Let's Me Wear Them By far this is my favorite device to use when listening to music, especially when I am riding around town on my electric scooter or skateboard. They are perfect when riding because they do not move, like AT ALL! No matter how much I skate or push they stay in place and most of the time I forget they are there. Best of all, you can hear the traffic or people so I can stay alert at all times because if you ride a scooter or skateboard you know how dangerous the roads can be. There was a few times during my use where I literally stopped to look around, trying to figure out where the music I was hearing was coming from. I felt so dumb and amazed at the same time. I also love them more because I can use them at work with permission from management. This is a HUGE deal because earbuds are not allowed at all at our manufacturing plant for obvious safety reasons. Once I proved how clear I can hear my surrounding I was given the OK to keep using them at work. The only thing I wish I was able to do is turn the volume up or down with the earpiece. If it's an option I am unaware of it but that would make these the perfect earbuds for myself and so many others I know.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Comfortable, breathable, stylish These are different in that you wear them similar to a clip on earing. They don't get "stuffed" in the ear so you don't get that pressure sensation there. As such, they don't block out sound, so plan on wearing them in a noisy setting such as a plane, car or where there are lots of people. They also won't block out the sounds of a treadmill even while in a private setting. But they may work on a trail or outdoors where you are on your own and need to hear traffic (other have said it works well here, but didn't get to test this out). Thats it on the bad. Sounds like a lot but thats not how they were intended, Now for that good.. As mentioned. They wear on the outside of ear and leave space between the canal / bud. These I can wear for far longer than ones that fit in the ear. Feel so much more relaxed. Conversations are easier to have. Other styles I would need to remove to clearly hear a person, these I can leave as is. Controlling your audio is more definitive. Others may have a sensor that if touched, removed, music may change or stop. I can unclip one and still hear playing in the other ear. The control is also more of a push button found on the barrel. use these for your standard controls, + swtich between audio sources, Music sounds crisp , clean and has setting for staying still, active, and a basic output. WIth the app. you can also modify the equilizers slightly. Speaking of. The app is different that the the previous one. I wasn't able to connect my other devices (as of yet). So wishing they would have just upgraded that app vs creating a new one. I would really give this a 4.5* for the issues I noted at beginning and with the app. Overall, its a solid product and would continue to reach for this primarily at my office desk setting

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My new favorite headphones for the gym! I have been looking for the perfect headphones for the gym for a long time and my search may finally be over! I do a few hours of intense exercise (CrossFit, running) just about everyday and until now I haven’t found the right headphones yet. Other products fall out easily, have terrible sound or are just too uncomfortable to wear for extended periods. First the fit, it takes a few minutes to get them into the right place on my ear. Part of that problem is that my off hand is clumsy. However once I had them in place they stayed there. I ran with them, lifted weights and did movements such and burpees and they didn’t fall out even once! Very impressive. The sound was awesome. Plenty of bass but I’d say the sound is pretty well balanced. With the open ear design I worried I would be hearing my music AND the gyms music but that turnout to not be an issue unless I was right under the gyms speakers. One of my favorite features of these headphones were the buttons. They feel solid and work well. I have some headphones that are controlled by tapping the sides and it’s super annoying to be lifting overhead and accidentally stopping your music or changing the volume. Physical buttons for the win! I was able to wear the ear buds for hours with no problems with comfort. Some miscellaneous thoughts. I was able to run about 100 meters from my phone and still maintain connection with my earbuds! Awesome! Call quality was very clear! And lastly this might be TMI but I have an ear that produces lots of earwax! It has wrecked in ear buds in the past. That is not an issue with the Ultra Ear buds because they don’t go into the ear canal that deep. So if you have ear wax issues these are perfect! My biggest con is the charging case lid, the hinge seems a little fragile. Maybe the silicone case will help with that? I’ll find out once it arrives. I am beyond happy with these earbuds and it’s nice to have finally found a product that fits all my needs while exercising !

Rated 5 out of 5 by from “Immerse” Yourself in New Technology Having never seen an earphone product like these I was intrigued. Having the opportunity to try them out was awesome. I started by just putting them in my ears to get the feel. Immediately I felt a comfort not felt with “regular” earbuds. They didn’t dig into my ears and the soft silicone of the clip portion was more comfortable than I would have thought, I couldn’t really even feel it even after wearing them for a couple of hours. After owning regular headphones and earbuds, both Bose, I was really excited about the immersive audio feature on this product. It did not disappoint. The music felt like it was all around me, akin to being at a concert. The battery life was also impressive I was able to listen for long periods of time with no interruptions. I will say there was one incident where the left earbud went out temporarily. This seemed to be fixed after a firmware update was run. I also let my wife and kids take a turn, all had glowing reactions to the buds. I would highly recommend these to anyone who is interested in a different kind feel and experience while listening to music. I also enjoy the fact that I can be listening to music but still hear the world around me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Unique and welcomed addition to the Bose Family I have truly been enjoying using my new Bose Ultra Open Earbuds! Once finding the correct fit on my ear (simply sliding up and down your ear), they have felt weightless and surprisingly snug around my ears. The comfort of the open ear design has been one of the biggest stand outs for me. I've had to check sometimes to make sure they were still there. With Bose's other earbud products, though the noise cancelling was phenomenal, I could never quite find the best fit and not feel pain using them for extended periods of time. I love that I can be listening to music/radio/podcasts and still be able to be present when I'm at home with my children. The open ear design allows for better situational awareness that can be compromised with Noise cancelling features on other products. I've felt a lot more safer wearing these earbuds compared to my Bose Quiet Comfort Ultra Headphones when I am riding the subway or walking through the busy New York streets. The Immersion Audio feature on these earbuds really help them stand out from other earbud designs. You really do feel like the music is all around you, especially during indoor use. I highly recommend checking these out. They have been a great addition to my ever-growing family of audio products from Bose!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quality earbuds After personally having used the earbuds for a few weeks I thoroughly enjoy them. They have quality sound and bass as does all Bose products. Pros: easily put them on your ear, cause no discomfort to my ears after wearing all day, the Spatial Audio feature allows for a more rich sound when listening to music or watching something, the battery level lasts a very long time I was consistently using them throughout each day and didn’t have to charge them until about a week later, having the button instead of swiping motion allows you to have a “shortcut” set up but also control the volume instead of having to put the volume control as your shortcut like previous earbuds. Cons: there is no active noise cancelling and depending on what you are doing this can be annoying or could be a benefit, because of the style they don’t sit directly in your ear therefor someone next to you can still hear what you are listening to if they are loud enough, the button to control sits behind the ear and does make it a little trickier I feel to get to compared to the swiping and taping motion previous earbuds had. Overall I enjoy these headphones and will continue to use them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simply Astounding Sound Experience I have to admit - I was skeptical of the "open earbuds" concept when I first received the package because they simply don't look like anything I've ever seen. The minute I clicked "play" on my favorite song, my jaw dropped. I felt as immersed as I do when I blast a song I love on a Bose *speaker* - except no one else could hear it, and I could hear everything else in my environment just as well. About the reviewer: musician and music lover, always been extremely particular about earphones and headphones. I'm female, mid thirties, have tiny ears, listen to music (or something) all day every day (pretty much all the time unless I'm in a meeting). Pros: - If you live for music as I do, and this is the most important criteria, these have simply amazing sound. - These allow you a pretty incredible listening experience without compromising safety if you are, e.g., cycling or running in a city or doing anything that requires environmental awareness (they don't go into your ear canal, so they don't dim outside sounds as other earphones do even without active noise cancelling). - They took a minute to get used to, but now I find them as comfortable as any other earphone I've owned. - Battery life seems very solid. - They stay on well through strenuous activity like running or strength training. - They're super light and the case is super light; comfortable to carry around in skinny jean pockets. Cons: - Some connection glitches at times (seems to have improved after a software update but still seems more glitchy than earphones native to your phone's manufacturer/operating system). I've also had some minor complaints on voice quality heard on the other side of phone calls and switching between Spotify/phone calls sometimes causes connection glitches. - I really wish the buttons had a swiping motion sensor to make the volume changing easier and more precise. - Hard to tell case battery level (it's not displayed on the app). - If you can only own one pair of expensive listening devices, and especially if you fly somewhat often, it's probably better to have the versatility of noise cancelling earphones as I would say these have a narrower set of use cases. Overall though, strongly recommend on the basis of incredibly powerful and beautiful sound + elegant and practical design.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great new fit while maintaining superb Bose sound Have used these new open ear buds for over 3 weeks now and am very pleased. The new cuff ear fit is a huge improvement over the old in ear method for 2 main reasons: 1. It perfectly fits any ear type which allows sharing. This was previously a problem since my wife's ears need a much smaller plug than I do. It also removes the need to clean the ear buds each time they are shared. 2. They maintain the great Bose sound and bass but also allows you to not be cut off from the outside world should someone wish to ask you something. Some other major Pros are: Great Bluetooth range - Better than my Bose QC II's. I can walk around my whole backyard while leaving my phone stationary with no issues. Button control on each barrel - This allows an extremely easy way to pause, skip, volume control, answer calls, etc. This also compares very favorably towards my QC II's as well as other ear buds that get touched accidentally and stop playing or skip. Not noise canceling - These do engulf you in the sound, so although you can hear outside sounds it is very close to noise canceling, basically the best of both worlds. Perfect fit - Although the fit is mentioned above, the cuff/clip method also allows these to not fall out. Even though the QC II's and my other ear buds fit me very well, after a long day or some strenuous exercise there was the possibility, they would slip out. With the cuff/clip method they stayed on while I worked out at the gym, hit the batting cages, worked outside etc. Battery Life - I have used these for 7 hours straight and not run out of battery life. In fact, I have yet to have them cut out due to dead battery. Battery Case - Major improvement in the case as the magnetic grip has the ear buds fit correctly every time. Plus, they connect up towards the top of the case which avoids issues I have had in the past with the QC II's and others where the deep case can get dirty contacts which are hard to clean and cause the ear buds to not always charge correctly. The other plus is 2 different charging lights that give the current status of each ear bud. My other ear bud cases contain one light that shows the status as you put each ear bud in, so it wasn't as easy to know where they both stood at a quick glance. Multiple Bluetooth connections - I had these connected to 2 or 3 different devices at all times and switching between was very easy and seamless. Firmware update - This was very easy to perform and completed successfully. The latest firmware update appears to have solved all of the issues/cons I will list below so it is great to know any other potential problems or updates can be distributed and installed proactively or reactively by Bose in a quick manner. Cons: Connectivity with the Bose Music App - I will start off by saying I believe all these issues were cleared up with the new firmware update, but I will mention them just in case. To be clear, these were only issues within the Bose Music app, my Bluetooth connections never dropped, and I never had any interruptions in listening. Within the Bose Music App, which is used to do things like adjust the equalizer and set various immersive audio settings (which are very cool), I had multiple occurrences where the app would lose connection with the ear buds at times for a few minutes and then reconnect. I tried to force reconnect via various troubleshooting methods but none of them worked, they just seemed to reconnect by themselves after a short period of time. As I mentioned there was no interruption at all in listening, it was just within the app. Along with that a few other times I also had one or the other ear bud drop off unexpectedly and then after 30-90 seconds pick back up again. In these cases, it did seem that if I clicked the barrel button on the ear bud that dropped it would come back, although this did not resolve it every time. As mentioned above, all of these issues have not reoccurred for me since the firmware update, so I do not have any actual current Cons. To wrap it up, I highly recommend these ear buds as they provide much more fit/sharing flexibility, seem more rugged than other ear buds and keep that same great Bose sound.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Comfortable, great fit, and good sound. I have been using these for the past few weeks most days and love them so far, oy earbuds i have ever said that about. So far I would say they have great comfort and stay in place! I have often found myself forgetting im wearing them if not actively listening to something and havent had them fall off at all when exercising. It does take some time to get used to wearing them as recommended but mainly to find the right position for the best sound, i do wish the band was slightly larger or adjustable so that it would be just ever so slightly louder and clearer at times. They definitely have good range I'm able to walk around my house with my phone sittingon the charger with no issues. The sound is amazing in quiet places, but loud environmentscan be tricky. The immersion modes are fun, still was great for watching show though I used motion a lot while walking around with them in stores or at home. It's a subtle sound adjustment but very enjoyable. As i said before ut does have trouble with louder noises ie vacuuming was not as enjoyable as music was drowned out though still able to hear it. I tried out the auto volume adjust but it didn’t seem to do much in this situation and was subtle overall. The app seemed to work well with them, it made it easy to add new devices, you can also do it via shortcuts but I never tried it that way. There is an option in shortcuts to change devices which was nice a bit slow but faster than going to app. Though the shortcuts did reset on me a couple of times which I noticed when trying to change devices. Battery life seemed good, no issues with it running low aside from the time I left them out overnight on purpose. Otherwise they stayed charged just from dropping them in the case, though definitely wish the case was set up for wireless charging on it. Overall I think these are excellent earbuds and definitely see myself using them more than any in-ear earbuds I have used in the past.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Light, comfortable, and great sound! These earbuds are incredibly light, they stay comfortable even after hours of wear because they don’t actually go inside your ear, and they still offer quality sound. As a filmmaker, I personally believe using their immersive audio mode when watching films (especially when they’re sound designed with Dolby Atmos) can give you the best (earbud) listening experience. Though, some things to keep in mind would be if you wear the earbuds while also wearing a mask, they do tend to get entangled when attempting to take either of them off. Another thing would be their volume controls - it’s overly complicated to change the volume and the process takes a bit too long for my taste. But overall, I find the open earbuds to be quite innovative, and a grand improvement from the typical earbud design.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bose Does It Again! Outstanding New Design! I got these new Bose Ultra Open Earbuds 3 weeks ago. These are now my new favorites!! I have tried many different brands of earbuds over the years. Most of the top brands. Then I splurged and tried a pair of Bose several years ago and never turned back. I now have multiple Bose products and have not been disappointed in any of them. I’ve tried these in different environments. At work. At home. Outside. Riding the UTV. These are the most comfortable earbuds I’ve ever worn. I have small ear canals so these are perfect for me! I’ve had them in hours at a time. The immersive audio is very unique and I was blown away at how Bose came up with a design to make it seem like the sound is projected out in front of you like a concert. Unbelievable, yet they managed to do it perfectly. The motion mode is very impressive. I would never have believed a small earbud could produce the sound that these do outside of the ear canal and the sound be manipulated to stay in one location and then move with you. The stereo mode works very well and sounds amazing. The sound, tones and clarity are very spot on. I can hear background sounds in videos like I am there with them. Bass is deep and clear. I love my Bose Quiet Comfort Ultras I have and use the noice cancellation feature often on those. Mostly when I am working and trying to block out everything so I can focus. These open concepts don’t have noise cancellation, but honestly, it doesn’t make me love them any less. I will be using these for listening to music, videos and everything else. I haven’t had any issues with these so far and have thoroughly enjoyed them. Thank you Bose for this opportunity to enjoy another one of your revolutionary products!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Sound For All Ears From the moment I opened these earbuds up I was completely impressed. The fit, finish and feel of these Bose Ultra Open Earbuds are just as wonderful as any other Bose product. The sound quality blew me away. Initially, I wasn't sure what to expect with this open ear design but I think Bose got it right. Pairing these to my iPhone was super simple and in no time, I was listening to music after unboxing them. I have Bose speakers that I use for listening to music and podcasts while at home and work but the Ultra Open Earbuds are my first Bose headphones or earbuds. I was immediately impressed by the full bodied and robust sound. The Ultra Opens are controlled and updated through the Bose Music which I found to be intuitive and a nice way to control the features. I typically only use earbuds while doing outside work such as cutting grass or splitting wood but I found myself using these more than I have other earbuds. I literally just put them on and lived my life. I recommend these to anyone that has fit issues with other typical in ear earbuds. After the first 20 minutes of using the Ultra Opens I forgot I was wearing them. They're very lightweight and comfortable and I didn't experience any fatigue or discomfort after wearing them for nearly three straight hours. Also, they have some moisture resistance but DO NOT submerge them. The Immersion Mode is a wonderful feature to have at this premium price point. It made me feel like I was at a live performance. I assume due to the open ear design, noise cancelling isn't a feature of these earbuds but honestly I don't care. The sound quality is that phenominal and it allows you to still be aware of your surroundings. For that reason, I recommend these to parents and caretakers that need to be able to hear outside of your own little sound cocoon. I can also see the benefits these would have for city dwellers or anyone that walks or exercises near traffic or crowded places. You can still be aware of what's going on around you without sacrificing great sound. I probably won't use these to cut grass or work around any loud machinery, but I don't see any other situation where these won't be my go to earbud. I just love that I can put them in and forget them. They have increased my use of earbuds. The only "cons" for me aren't even real dealbreakers. They don't have any sort of tracking feature in case of loss or theft. I have a pretty good history of not losing expensive items (fingers crossed while I knock on wood). Also, the case doesn't have wireless charging. In my experience, that is okay because the battery life has been phenomenal in the case and the individual earbuds. Wireless case charging and tracking would be wonderful convenience features to have but the sound quality, ease of use and comfort of the Bose Ultra Open Earbuds make up for those omissions.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Finally ear buds that stay put Immediately I noticed this is the design I was needing to work with the shape of my ears. I’ve been through at least 5 different ear buds of various brands and none of them would fit securely or comfortably. These do both very well! So light I hardly notice them, and I don’t have to worry about them dropping out of my ears. Well done Bose! I do miss the depth of sound I have with my QC ultras but that’s to be expected with the open design. The sound quality is what you would expect from Bose, clear highs, strong lows. Additionally, the same tuning and customization as the QC Ultras is available on these, except for the noise canceling. The two immersion modes offer variety in your listening experience. This feature really opens up the sound and allows you to feel a part of the music, especially if you’re trying to focus on the details. Lastly, I appreciate the compact size of the charging case. It seems most earbud cases are getting larger nowadays, but not these. The case fits comfortably in my front hip pocket and will even fit in the coin pocket of some of my jeans.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great fit, lightweight, and sounds amazing! I'm an over the ear headphone fanatic. I've purchased and given away earbuds on multiple occasions. These will not be added to that category. I've been hooked on these earbuds for a few weeks now. With three kids, I gotta stay alert, but that doesn't mean I can't enjoy some good music, my favorite podcast, or YouTube! These fit that bill perfectly. The sound is surprisingly full and clear, especially with that immersive audio Bose implemented. But the best part? I can still hear the kids getting into trouble... sometimes before it happens. Talk about a dad superpower! I also struggle with earbuds that feel too tight, but these are in a different class of comfort. They hug my ears just right, even when I'm chasing the dog or finishing a HIIT workout they fit perfectly. Honestly, they're the most comfortable earbuds I've ever tried. Only had one slight sound issue but it was when the "still" immersive sound was quiet despite not moving my head to activate it. It was quickly fixed by stopping my music and starting it again. Lastly, combining this amazing sound quality and immersive sound attributes with a VR is the perfect combination!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Another winner! The sound is amazing on these earbuds (a quality that only Bose can deliver). They are easy to put on and are quite comfortable to wear. The only downside is that they don’t have dual connectivity. However, you can program your earbuds to toggle between devices using the buttons on your earbuds. The app is easy to use and is very informative. All in all, an excellent product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best of both worlds! I have been using these earbuds for a couple of weeks now and I have been loving them for multiple reasons. They are a perfect fit for my specific needs. First of all, the sound is amazingly rich, crisp, and clear and offers an enjoyable listening experience (especially with the immersive audio technology). Secondly, the open design allows me to be present as a mother while allowing uninterrupted musical enjoyment. Being able to maintain awareness is also important in other situations for me (such as when I am out hiking). The open design is also great for my sensory sensitivities. Other earbuds create a sort of pressurized feeling in my ear and can’t be tolerated for long periods of time. These are comfortable for prolonged use and, for lack of better wording, allow my ear the “breathe”. I like the way in which they securely hug your ear and stay in place (through yoga, dancing, and walking). There was initially a slight issue with incoming sound on phone calls, but that improved when caller switched from speaker. I have not encountered the same issue again so far. The lack of noise cancellation might not make these a good fit for some, but I have other noise-canceling headphones/ear buds (which don’t fit my need to be present - and end up not being used). I say these are the best of both worlds because they provide uninterrupted quality sound for music enjoyment while also allowing the user to maintain presence/awareness of the world around them. As a person with sound sensitivities, these open earbuds are an amazing tool for when the world is a little too full of sounds I’d rather not focus on. I can put these on, turn on my music, and be instantly transported to a pleasant auditory environment away from the cacophony of everyday environment noise (traffic, my rambunctious gaming teens, and other’s conversations).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best earbuds for what they are designed for! The short summary: If you are looking for high-quality sound and prioritize awareness of your environment, these earbuds excel. They are comfortable for all-day wear and perfect for outdoor activities like running. However, they do not work well for phone calls or air travel. Highly recommended for their intended use case. Pros: Excellent sound quality Easy toggling between stereo and immersive sound App allows customization of EQ settings Easy to use controls for volume adjustment even while running Amazing awareness of surroundings, ideal for outdoor activities like running Very comfortable even to wear all day Cons: The microphones are not great for phone calls Not for air travel as there is no background noise blocking Lack of wireless charging in case Immersive sound may not suit all preferences and contexts The Full Review: Let me start by saying that these earbuds did exactly what I had hoped they would do. I would also say they are the best at what they do, just not perfect for every situation. I own many earbuds and headphones; some people closest to me may say I have a problem, but I am very particular about having outstanding music and the ability to watch programs in every situation. Some background: I travel frequently, and I am a runner. So, I have been looking for a high-quality pair of earbuds for running that would allow me to feel safe by not closing off the outside world. There have been too many times with my favorite pair of earbuds (the Bose QC ii) that I have not noticed a car coming up too quickly or a bicyclist on my favorite running path passing me at an unsafe speed, even the aware modes still blocked too much of the traffic or noise from a bicyclist yelling at me to watch out. Having the opportunity to test the Ultra Open Earbuds, I was super excited, hoping that they would allow me to have great sound and good quality music while still allowing me to hear my surroundings. I've tried cone-conducting headphones and immediately realized that the vibrations bothered me greatly if I turned the volume up. The Good: I'll start with the good; the quality of the music is great, and I like the ability to toggle between stereo and immersive sound. I find that some music sounds better in stereo mode, usually something more melodic. The immersive sound can cause some songs to sound hollow, but that's not a knock on the immersive sound. I think I am just very particular in terms of the way I want a song to sound. I will say that the bass in something like hip-hop songs does leave something to be desired, but I think I have experienced that with every pair of earbuds I've used. You really can't replace deep bass with small speakers in an earbud. I like that the app allows me to play with the EQ settings. Continuing with the good, while I'm running, the controls are super easy to use because the buttons are large. I love the ability to adjust the volume while I'm running without touching my watch or phone. While sitting at my desk at work, I like listening to music with ultra-open earbuds because it allows me to not be surprised if someone walks up behind me and starts talking. I have often been startled at work or annoyed by somebody who asks me a question when I use noise canceling. Using ultra-open earbuds is very much like having speakers play on your desk. The not-so-good: The microphones do not seem to sound good for phone calls. I've tested these with family members and work colleagues willing to put up with me and have been told more than once that I sound far away. Simply stated, these earbuds do not work well for air travel, in terms of sitting on an airplane. The background noise drowns out your ability to hear whatever you're listening to, no matter how high the volume. I really wish wireless charging was included in all of the Bose cases. I realized this would increase the price, but I love having the ability to put this on my wireless charging pad without finding a cable. The immersive sound can be overdone in specific contexts. I don't know if I could characterize what I like hearing in stereo versus what I like hearing immersive. Still, I think that comes down to personal preference. The immersive sound, in general, has always felt like a nice-to-have as opposed to what I must have. Overall: I think my impression of this product, in general, is that if you are looking for earbuds that are very high-quality sound-wise and you will be using them for what they're best for, I think they're the best product on the market, the sound quality really justifies the price point. This technology is so much better than bone-conducting that I can't imagine anybody who tries both would ever buy bone-conducting headphones again. The Ultra Open Earbuds are so comfortable to wear as they don't pinch my ears, something I was concerned with design-wise. I wore them all day while walking around Manhattan. It felt perfectly safe not worrying about getting hit by a car or a bike by not hearing something coming up on me. These were great, and even with the cacophony of midtown sounds, the music and the volume were still at a significant level. Don't expect to use these as your primary earbuds for work to take calls or for air travel in place of noise-canceling headphones. I, of course, would never buy open-ear earbuds for either of those use cases.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Most comfortable buds I’ve ever used in my life!! I am such a fan! These have to be the most comfortable buds I’ve ever felt in my life. These stay without a problem, and are comfy to lay on too!! My kittens have not been able to knock these out of my ears while they’re attacking me. I’ve lived on a farm all my life, and just now moved to a big city- as a woman in her 20s, safety while listening to music is a huge problem for me. I would never feel safe enough to wear headphones or even any of my earbuds with noise cancelling because I need to be aware of my surroundings at all times. These are the answer! The visual of these hooked onto my ear also feels safer than the visual cue of normal earbuds that make me look distracted, regardless of if they’re on or not. I can go running without them falling off, which is super weird since this design doesn’t go inside my ear. Which brings me to my next point; these are the earbuds that finally resolve the issue of changing out rubber pieces in the hopes that you have a size that fits your ear. They did take a minute to feel like I was wearing them correctly, but now every time I put them in it’s easy peasy and stays put. As for audio quality; absolutely 10/10 fantastic Bose quality. The controls are fun and easy to learn, it’s nice to have a “clickable” button on each bud, so no accidental skipping songs or anything. Battery- I literally haven’t charged these I think they must have some ungodly number of battery hours in them paired with the case that charges them when I finally take them off at the end of the day. All this to say, I absolutely whole heartedly love these and would absolutely recommend these to any and everyone.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Game-Changer for Comfort and Sound Quality! After two weeks of continuous use, I can confidently say that I can't imagine going without these headphones. They've seamlessly integrated into my daily routine, competing in usage frequency with my trusted QC45. They've unveiled a niche I didn't realize I was missing. Key Highlights: • Sound Quality: 5/5 • Ergonomics: 5/5 • Battery Life: 5/5 FYI: • No noise cancelling: These are OPEN BACK headphones, intentionally designed for ambient sound awareness. • Potential discomfort for upper lobe piercings. Pros: • Unmatched Comfort: Having previously experienced discomfort and pain with AirPods and other in-ear options after just 20-30 minutes of use, the Ultra Open design is a revelation. Unlike traditional in-ear options, these earbuds feel more like comfortable cuffs than intrusive buds. I can wear them for hours without discomfort. • Superb Sound: Among my collection of headphones, few rival the audio quality of these open-back earbuds. • Impressive Battery Life: Even with 4-5 hours of daily use over two weeks, I've only had to charge the case once, never interrupting my usage. • Secure Fit: Whether bouldering or running, these earbuds stay firmly in place, providing peace of mind during physical activities. Cons: • Occasional Sound Interruptions: Despite the immersive audio experience, there are sporadic cutouts, although the development team is actively addressing this. • Confusing Case Design: The case layout can be perplexing when storing the earbuds. • Initial Confusion with Earbud Orientation: It may take some trial and error to determine the correct way to wear the earbuds initially. • Challenges in Noisy Environments: In extremely loud environments, hearing music can be difficult, though the auto volume feature helps mitigate this issue.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent concept turned into a excellent product. Had the product for a few weeks now , So far its a giant leap forward in comfort especially for longer term use in the day , I also find them more secure then a normal earbud while doing physical activity . The sound quality actually surprised me , I was concerned that with ought it being in the ear canal it would be lacking but there was no loss in quality at all. The battery life is excellent and they charge quickly in the case for extra time . I also like that they use a physical button for pause ,play , etc. I have always found the tap feature can become uncomfortable tapping on things in my ear canal . overall these have been fantastic and would recomend them to anyone who uses music on the go frequently .
