Yes. Use the auxiliary input on the back of the right speaker.

No. The speakers are not magnetically shielded. However, the magnetic field around the speakers is not strong enough to harm data on most magnetic storage media. Ratings and Reviews

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great Sound After owning this product for almost 1 year, the right one doesn't sound anymore, I have to keep moving the cord so it can sound like the left one, the left one sounds perfect, I didn't use it daily, my usage was for like 20 mins to 3 hrs, and a few days a weeks. I will have to switch to Logitech that will come with a sub-woofer.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Bose Companion Speakers:Good while they last. I've had my Bose Companion speakers for about 5 years and they have served me well. For computer speakers, the sound quality was very good and their size is just right for my desk space. However, one speaker recently went almost dead. Sound controls cannot mitigate the issue and since the speaker case seems to be sealed shut, I can't go into the speaker to repair what I am confident is a simple fix.My choice is to spend another $100 or switch brands. I was careful with these speakers so I don't think the speaker connections should have gone bad. At least let me fix them.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Quality product with great looks Usual compliant many people may have for small speakers is the lack of bass. But for this one, the bass is very heavy. Boomy may be another word you could use. The high frequency response is also dull.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Adequate, middle of the road I bought this originally for audio from a modern player piano system. Not volume enough for this application. Plugged into my MacBook it is better suited but still the volume range is limited. As others have mentioned a power ON light would be helpful. The Left speaker performs fine but the Right/main controller speaker is uneven stereo and barely makes a sound, but, plugged into my iPod it works fine. All cables check out fine so I suppose the Mac has output problems but still work fine with headphones.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Bose computer speakers I am disappointed, somewhat, with my fairly new Bose side speakers for my computer monitor. Great, deep base sound, but can't adjust the treble (??) higher pitched sound--cannot do anything except turn speakers on and off and adjust loudness. Hearing the name "Bose" has always provided me with very positive thinking (yes, I have a big Nose Wave system and love it!) My other computer in our bedroom has Beats speaker system--much clearer on the high pitches of sound than the Bose, which totally surprises me.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Pretty sweet So I agree with what people dislike and like about them. Cons: I would like an idiot light. I like how the other speakers I have set up have a light, but not a big deal to me. The bass is pretty weak. If you want great bass and listen to hard rock, rap, or anything that has solid bass, then this isn't what you want. I am one of those people and would have bought something with a subwoofer if I had to do over again. Pros: I think most people will really like them. The bass isn't that bad and they sound great for small computer speakers.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good sound poor interface design I think the speaker sound is good, the only problem is that there is no power on-off indicator and as a result I sometimes forget to switch off the speakers when not in use!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Good until they works I got those speakers and they were working very good, the sound was clear. After 2-3 years the volume started to go increase and decrease randomly by itself. Now I cannot use them anymore... Calling the customer service was lost of my time. I spent more than $100... probably I will find cheaper and more durable speakers with other companies

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Disappointed The first issue I had with these speakers was that the cable connecting them to the PC is way too short so I had to setup with reversed L/R. I had read reviews from others that had the same problem and they had simply called CS to get a longer cable at no extra cost. However, when I called, they would only send me the cable if I paid for it - and it is NOT inexpensive of course. When I turned the speakers on, the volume sounded low to me. I don't need them to play very loudly, so I wasn't too concerned but this seemed odd. Unfortunately, the speakers really only sound good at low to mid volumes. They do sound very good in this range but to me the quality sound range is a little too far on the low side. Also, while the speakers did have a nice "full" sound in this range, they lacked any bass punch at all. I purchased these speakers through the employee purchase program so got them at a sizable discount. Even with that, I don't think they are a good value. I also don't think consumers should have to pay extra for a cable or find/setup a driver that will allow swapping L/R in order to use the them.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Ok sound Highs are just ok, mids are way to warm for my taste. Very little bass. Very disappointed with Bose on this product. I will be returning these and sticking with my Logitech Z series. I tried to like them.... I really did.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Unreliable wire connections I have owned these speakers for nearly a year. While the sound is fine and what one would expect for the relatively small cost, the speaker connection design is flawed. It requires several plugging and unplugging efforts to get the right speaker and left speaker operating at the same time. Frequently, this does not happen at all. The right and left are connected to one another with a wire that is embedded permanently in one speaker and plugs into the port of the other. The male connector at the end of the attached wire does not fit tightly enough to make a good connection at all times (it's loose) and because it is permanent configured as opposed to having a detached wire with male connectors on both ends tethering the two speakers, this cannot be fixed with the simple purchase of a new connector wire. VERY poorly engineered. One wonders whether these products are tested in beta mode before release!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Don't last long I both these speakers about 1.5 years ago. They just quit working. I bought a new power supply online per the suggestion and still not working. I have had cheap speakers last forever. The sound was great while it lasted.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Buzz begins after about eight months of daily use Was satisfied the speakers began to randomly begin buzzing / humming. I found slapping the right hand speaker or event left hand speaker stopped it, temporarily. Now I must turn the speaker off then back on ... was very annoying this morning during breakfast. Was not going to award a rating, but I will be generous:-)

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Bad durability These were great when I bought them, after a year they just blew out, they sound very muffled and distorted. It's a shame since I have various other bose systems(for the TV set, earphones, etc) and these gave up so quickly. Maybe a lowering in the build quality.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not enough volume They're good, no question but I have to turn them up well past halfway just to hear.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Better than the dell but not worth the money These speakers need an indicator light when they are on and why was it so difficult for BOSE to put an adapter in the box so it could be powered with a wall socket instead of a USB port is hard to understand.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from not very happy No indicator light but fair sound for a set of speakers without a subwoofer, wish I read the reviews before buying them

Rated 2 out of 5 by from It makes bass noise constantly- Useless Two weeks ago I got a 28" LG HDTV for the kitchen. The sound up all the way is not enough if things are going on in the room. All others TVs there for 35 years were much louder. I attached new comp2 III's. The sound is nice and louder. BUT the bose amplifies anything that has bass in it.It sounds like someone tapping on an open mike. Every scrape of a shoe or music in the scene: loud bass appears. Completely distracting. My TV has no equalizer so back this goes. DO NOT use for TV speaker replacement

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Great speakers for the first year The first year of having my Bose speakers they worked great. High quality sound. I was very impressed and glad I made the purchase. After a year and perhaps not even that long, I noticed a soft humming. The humming noise has progressively gotten louder such that it is hard to hear the music over them. So I have to give these speakers a low rating due to durability over time.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Computer speakers Good speakers, not worth ditching you're standard HP speakers, buy a more expensive model. Where is the off switch, maybe that is why the power packs go so quickly? I use a power strip to turn them off when not in use. Why must I do this with a $100. speaker? What were they thinking?
Date published: 2013-12-04
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Nice but they should last longer for that price I bought these slightly over two years ago. They sound great. And then two days ago, they don't turn on. I've troubleshooted and the power is bad. And yes, it's plugged into a surge protector and no, there wasn't anything to explain why this happened. Sad. I'm going to now buy something that cost half what these do because if even good quality speakers aren't made to last, why pay extra?

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Terrible I never received the item. Bose refused to offer me a refund.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Terrible sound quality I purchased those speakers in the hope that I get a descent sound quality. The sound quality is horrible. Mid tones and vocals are not clear at all and they get dwarfed by the extra loud bass. I regret this purchase and I’d never consider buying any Bose product again.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worst Sound Ever I can't believe how horrible these speakers soound. What a waste of my time. They are going back to the store tomorrow.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Under water with no volume I wish I had written to Bose, as soon as, I got these because it sounds like I may have gotten a defective pair. I love Bose speakers normally and was so surprised by the terrible quality. These sound like it they are underwater and no volume. I have a set of Bose Companion 20 Multimedia Speaker System and a Soundlink Mini. They both sound great, but the Companion 2 is the worst sounding speakers that I've ever ordered. I order a lot of speakers with the work that I do, but I would never order these again, nor recommend. I haven't used them in a while, but I tried them again today for a presentation that I was giving and after it started, I wished I hadn't.
